Our faculty was established on July 4, 1995, by the decision of the Council of Ministers numbered 95/7044. On June 24, 1999, a protocol signed with the Ministry of Health led to the decision to renovate the building formerly used as the Tokat Health Vocational High School and reopen it as the Research and Practice Hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine. The hospital, which opened in 2002, soon became physically insufficient due to the high demand from the people of Tokat and the increasing number of medical units. As a result, in 2005, after the renovation of the former Rectorate building was completed, outpatient clinics, laboratories, and imaging units were relocated to this building. In addition to this complex, a new hospital building was completed and put into service in February 2010. The Emergency Department began providing services on April 4, 2010.
In order to meet the healthcare needs of our region and the increasing demand from patients, the following units have been established and put into service to date: a Level 1 Coronary Intensive Care Unit, Level 3 Surgical and Internal Medicine Intensive Care Units, a Level 2 Intensive Care Unit, a Chemotherapy Treatment Unit, a Pediatric Emergency Department, a Delivery Room, a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and a Level 2 Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The Palliative Care Center was completed and became operational in 2015. Our Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Diagnosis and Treatment Units have been opened, and high-dose Radioactive Iodine Therapy has begun to be administered to patients in the Nuclear Medicine Unit. To meet the growing need for inpatient care, a new inpatient building (Block C), with 10 floors, 32,000 m² of enclosed space, and a capacity of 501 beds, was completed at the end of 2016 and is currently serving the public. Our hospital continues to provide healthcare services with a total capacity of 601 beds, including 8 operating rooms, 84 intensive care beds, and 12 palliative care beds, across the A and C Block Inpatient Service Buildings, the Outpatient Clinic Building, the Chemotherapy Treatment Unit, and the Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Units.
By the end of 2017, the existing Block B inpatient service building will be renovated and reorganized as an outpatient clinic building in accordance with quality standards. Ensuring the implementation of these quality standards and enhancing service quality through national and international accreditation are among our top priorities.
