As the TOGÜ Faculty of Medicine, we held a talk titled “Inside the White Coat: Understanding the Human Being and the Era” on October 12, 2026, amidst the unique atmosphere of Gökmedrese.
Our guest for the event was Mr. Süleyman Gündüz, a figure who integrates the medical profession with his work in sociology, civil society, politics, and the arts. Following his dental education, Gündüz engaged in volunteer medical work and humanitarian aid activities across a vast geography stretching from Gaza to Bosnia, assuming significant responsibilities through his efforts in humanitarian crisis zones. Having served as an advisor to Turgut Özal and Alija Izetbegović and as a Member of Parliament during the 22nd legislative term, Gündüz also possesses a multifaceted background through his work as a documentary filmmaker, author, and photographer.
During the talk, it was emphasized that the medical profession is not merely about medical knowledge and practice; rather, it is a multidimensional responsibility that requires an understanding of the individual, society, and the era in which we live. Mr. Gündüz shared his professional experiences and insights gained in the field of humanitarian aid, offering reflections on the ethical, social, and humanitarian dimensions of medicine.
The event, which helped our students view the medical profession from a broader perspective, once again highlighted the importance of approaching medical education alongside an understanding of the human being and society.
We extend our thanks to Mr. Süleyman Gündüz for his valuable insights and contributions.
